I’ve wanted to say this for a while, but worried it would come out wrong. Today, I will make my attempt. Ever since the birth of rock and roll, there’s been that band that rides the wave to the “toppermost of the poppermost”. The whole time they’re trying to enjoy themselves, but they know their days are numbered. There’s a fear that drives them, knowing it could all end tomorrow. John will blurt out something like “We’re more poplular than Jesus” or your drummer will spontaneously combust. But what if - what if - you, as a member of that pop culture sensation, had the wherewithall to handpick your “successor(s)” and then sign them to your own label. In essence creating a big, warm, friendly pool of mutual respect and talent - noone needs to take a backseat because you build eachother up. You are the best of friends.
I have a person in my head who did exactly this; and for that, he/she is in a class all his/her own, and a new model to emulate. Does anyone know who I’m talking about?
